Sabres Win Championship

This past weekend on March 2 my daughters junior high basketball team went into a four-team playoff for the season championship after having won their quarter-final earlier in the week. They were nervous and scared going into it and very worried about how they would play. Then, as I knew they would, once the game started they settled down and began to play some basketball. They talked. They helped each other. They actually worked together as a team and it showed. In the end we defeated the team that had gone undefeated throughout the season and had beaten us by 30+ points during the regular season to win the championship.

Not only was it a big upset, but I honestly believe the girls were surprised when time ran out in the fourth quarter and they looked at the scoreboard and realized they had won. What followed was a screaming mess of tears and hugs as they celebrated together. Together. There are fleeting moments as a coach when you wonder why you spend the time, money, effort, frustration, etc… doing it and then something like this happens. As a coach I could not have been more proud in that moment. Thank you very much for a season that I will forever cherish and a memory that will get me through the rough times.
